Misty is trained in EMDR, Cognitive Processing Therapy, ACE's Aware, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, ASIST Suicide Prevention, Safe Care, Triple P (Positive Parenting Program), Triple P Teen, Polyvagal Informed, Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Advocacy, Seeking Safety, and Child Abuse Prevention.
In 2007, she became a Rape and Domestic Violence counselor for One Safe Place, eventually promoted to a Children's' Specialist position: This allowed her to support families in breaking cycles of power and control. As a single mother, she recognized the value of education in creating change for her own life. In 2010, she earned her Bachelor's degree in Psychology from Simpson University. While at Simpson, she was a Parent Partner and AmeriCorps member. In 2013, she earned her Master's in Social Work (MSW) at University of California Chico. She has also worked for Tehama County Behavioral Health, Shasta County Office of Education, and Tehama County Office of Education. She works for Redding Rancheria in Trinity County also.
FaithWorks Community Collaboration, The Job Training Center, Mono County Behavioral Health, are a few of the agencies we are able to provide collaboration, consultation, and raining. A Good Neighbor Grant from First 5 Shasta in 2021 has allowed us to purchase and implement SEL Spot Curriculum and Provide Triple P level 4 and level 4 Teen. In 2023, First 5 also supported our office with a grant to support with EMDR training.
